27/02/06	MINICUP REPORT 26th FEB The place: BoTN. The date: Sunday 26 Feb 2025. The time: 20:30hrs. The reason: Another superb Minicup!! So the theme was decided and the Geordies took on the Toffees. One quick and powerful attack against one rock solid defence. Which would be the winning formula?? 1st Round: The draw is made and we see a couple of new faces in the 1st round. We would also see one of those new faces definately through to the next round as SMOKEY657 and CAPTAINCOD1 drew each other. Luckily for 'The Cod' he has the power of Shearer and the pace of Owen, with both those players scoring first half goals to see of SMOKEY 2-1. The 1st round also sees the return of NEIL363 to face 'The Boss', TOMSKI. A dodgy penalty for Neil sees him fight his way past the new-found form of EL1's whipping boy to take his place in the 2nd round of the Minicup for the first time ever! Other notable results in the first round see last weeks Semi-Finalist, BISCUITS007, beaten by ALEXWILLIAMS15 and A HERO EMERGES just scrapping by against JOKER0074, in a game that both players admitted should have gone to the JOKER! Obviously the new name for Joker didnt see him have any new luck! Two other games were very close both going into Extra time but BOB88 finally sees of THUGGIE BEAR and LUKE3300 knocks BARNDAN out with the latter moaning that he 'hates Everton'. 2nd Round: With both MANC 4 LIFE and JONBOYO receiving byes into the second round they meet for a place in the Semis. JONBOYO has the better game seeing of previous Minicup champ MANC 4 LIFE, and progressing to the semis. We also have ALEXWILLIAMS15 and 'THE COD' battling it out for the other bottom half semi final but even with COD on a roll from his first tournament win he cannot get past the stubborn defence of ALEX and goes down 2-0. The top half of the draw sees the two who always seem to draw each other, A HERO EMERGES and LUKE3300 going head-to-head again. It was always going to take something special to seperate these two, so Luke just had to show who was boss. A freekick on the halfway line should be no real trouble. It becomes trouble however when the defending keeper has a slight lapse in concentration, skill and anything else that helps him stand up. Running out to meet the freekick he inexplicably allows it to sail over his head and into the back of the net giving Luke a 2-0 lead. Although Hero rallies his troops to get it back to 2-1 he doesnt have enough time for anymore and Luke is through to the Semis. The other 2nd round game has NEIL363 (in his first ever 2nd round match) up against BOB88. 5-1 to Bob is the score. End of story, enough said!! Semi-Final: Woooaahh, what a draw for the Semi Finals. For JONBOYO and ALEXWILLIAMS15 this must be the biggest game they have played on BoTn, but unfortunately for them the other Semi is a real grudge match. Not much to say, but JONBOYO scraps through as Newcastle to book his place in his first Final. The second Semi sees the return of the BOB88 and LUKE3300 meeting, like I say, a real grudge match if there ever was one. Bob eventually goes on to win 3-0 but the real talking point is how his first goal came about. Ferguson on the floor injured, Bob plays on and scores. Luke is not happy about this act of non-sportsmanship and cant regain his composure. He eventually loses 3-0, with Shearer tackling Martyn in goal for the 3rd. The question is: Should Bob have kicked the ball out to allow the injured man to receive treatment, or is it just sourgrapes from Luke?? VOTE IN THE FORUM NOW!!! Final: After the controversy of the Semis we see BOB88 meet JONBOYO. Bob having last won a Minicup over a month ago and going for his second victory up against the relative new-comer in JONBOYO (although he's getting on a bit now!!). JONBOYO obviously delighted that the other semi was as much a mental battle as it was physical for Bob, and therefore sensing his first ever trophy. As is always the case now, I pass you over to the words of our NEW MINICUP CHAMPION, JONBOYO. 'After scraping through to the final after winning the semis with Newcastle, I knew I was playing with a player for player weaker team as Everton in the final. I found the other semi was somewhat more controversial, with Bob88 causing chaos in Luke's mindset after not kicking the ball out after a critical injury.Luke returned to the shoutbox swearing like a trooper. Yet I've never kicked a ball out myself after such an injury, so was somewhat baffled about this gentlemanly behaviour I have never acquired. So to my 1st minicup final. My plan was simple - to beat Bob88, or more accurately not to let Owen break or Shearer shoot...and it paid off with minimal incidents...My Everton only had height in the box but were surprisingly composed passing in the midfield with some strong challenges. It looked like another penalty shootout was on the cards (as in my 1st round) when in the 84th min I had a break the size of a tsunami. After subbing big Duncan Ferguson I had some other big bloke upfront who was lucky to receive a slightly deflected pass and shot home. It was then a case of just holding on but always the knowledge that a stoppage time equaliser could break the scousers hearts. Then to my surprise a whipped in cross saw a header pound the back of the net from Bent. At last trophy for my virtual cabinet!' So its there for all to see. Congrats to JONBOYO for sealing your first BoTn trophy, bad luck to BOB88 (maybe next week!!). Heres just a few facts about our progress recently. - Our potential reach of new members has grown from just under half a million to around 3.5million on average, with ur currently at 6 million today! - Our internet site rank has risen almost a million places recently to site us as one of the most popular sites on the entire net! This has been thanks to everyones continuing support for BOTN [and a fair amount of hard work on the admins part] so please keep supporting BOTN however you can by recommending us to friends or by linking to us from your website. 22/02/06	Kudos Ranking I have introduced a new ranking system into the site called Kudos rank. Seraphs21 gave me the initial idea which I have built upon, so credit to him for the initial idea. Kudos is basically a word meaning acheivement, and thats what this new ranking system is based on. Everyone starts off with 500 Kudos. You receive and lose Kudos to players you beat and lose against. If you win against a player with MORE Kudos than you then you will in turn receive a bigger reward for beating them. This should be a more accurate way of ranking people on the site as more merit will be given for beating harder opponents. The site ranking link on the left has now been replaced with the Kudos Ranking where you can see your current progress. Note that everyone will initially start on 500 Kudos so you may have to wait a few days and play a good number of games to start seeing results! Good luck and have fun! As always any questions PM me! 22/02/06	Late Night Cup After Having two Good Late Night Cups we Are Going to try And have one EVERYNIGHT!!!!! For this we need more players everynight so its not the same players over and over, so if you know any of your friends who play evo then get them to come to BoTn, The more players the better. 20/02/06	Minicup report 19th Feb The latest Minicup was themed Liverpool vs Man Utd. The tie of the first round was most definately Thuggie Bear vs Luke3300. Luke still trying to win his first ever minicup up against Thuggie 'I wont lose my temper and break my new pad' Bear. Unfortunately for Thuggie his new pad didnt pay off and Luke soared into the 2nd round with a 6-3 thrashing of 'The Bear'. Also the first round saw EL1's Tomski pitted against non-league player Bob88. With Tomski taking the lead with a lovely Stevie G freekick, he thought his 62% possession would have been enough to earn him the victory. How wrong was he!? Possession dont mean points, goals mean points and in this case a place in the next round, and with Bob88 scoring a last minute winner with a 'crap cross' (Tomski's words not mine, lol), Bob went through to meet Luke in the next round!! The Quarter Final stages saw the meeting of Bob and Luke and after a little controversy, Luke is given a 2-0 win! The other 2nd round matches see Crazy Gooner seeing off the World Number 5, Vortekz 88, 2-0 and Frinkulator just squeezing past triple Minicup champion A HERO EMERGES, 6-5 on penalties. Semi Final time and the quiet man of the Minicup, Biscuits007 sees himself up against Frinkulator, however the finishing of Frink is too much for Biscuits and Frink bursts into the final 2-1. The other Semi, sees Luke (still on course for yet another Minicup final) up against the 'Crazy' one! With Crazy Gooner riding high on confidence after his beating of Vortekz, his all-round play is too much for Luke and Gooner sails on into the Final with a 3-1 win. Crazy Gooner is so good that although Luke looks in his 'bag of excuses', even he cannot find one and must admit defeat!! (another first for BoTn) So onto the final between Crazy Gooner and Frinkulator. On paper, a win for Gooner, in reality football and PES is a funny old game. I asked for match reports from both finalists but the only response Gooner could come up with is 'frink won on penalties. I was winning 4-3 in extra time and he got a penalty in the dying seconds even tho i pressed nothing. Sorry neil im annoyed'. Obviously not a happy chappy!! I'll therefore leave it our NEW MINICUP CHAMPION, FRINKULATOR to sum up the final, and I quote 'crazy Gooner 4-4 Frinkulator Frinkulator wins 5-4 on penalties A truly outstanding game which saw 8 goals, a sending off for Frinkulator after 6 minutes and a dodgy injury time penalty in extra time. Gooner was 4-2 up and looked set to win the cup but for Van Nistelrooy to score two late goals to send the match to penalties. The match was eventually won when van der saar saved a Cisse penalty to leave the Frink jubulent' So there we have it, another successful Minicup sees us have a new champion. Well done Frinkulator!! 16/02/06	English Cup Final The scores are in and a miracle has occured....... Luke3300 HAS WON A TROPHY!!! Yes, I'll repeat that for all those who think that this is a typo. Luke3300 HAS WON A TROPHY!!! Contesting the 1st English Cup final were Boobiesaregreat (Boro) and Luke3300 (Chelsea). Both players going for the first trophy of their BoTn careers, with Luke on a crest of a wave after knocking out the cup favourite, Seraphs21, in the Semi Final. Although Boobiesaregreat scored the goal of the final (a 30 yard mendieta free kick, a screamer!), Luke3300 ran out a comfortable winner 6-2 over the two legs. Final result: Boobiesaregreat 2 - 6 Luke3300. Congratulations and a 10000 euro reward go out to Luke3300 for winning the trophy. Posted by neil363
15/02/06	League Update I have finished making preliminary updates to the league system which has now resulted in a more powerful league for all of us. I have tested the system as thoroughly as I can but if anyone finds any problems please PM me with as much detail as possible so I can fix them. This should now mean we are able to provide more leagues and themed events for all members. As always if anybody has any ideas or suggestions about any part of the site please feel free to inform myself of them and I can see about implenting them. Thanks Posted by m0nkeymafia
15/02/06	Downtime I am about to start updating the league system infrastructure which will result in down time for the league systems. Anyone trying to access them will probably get a lot of errors or nonesense whilst its being updated - it should only last a few hours though.
